Maintenance: Low GWP Refrigerants-Installation & Diagnostics
Electrical Testing and Diagnostics for HVAC
Presenter: David Cameron, HVACR Training, LLC
Monday: Low GWP Refrigerants - Installation and Diagnostics
As of 2025, many refrigerants with a high global warming potential, such as R-410A, will be phased out in the US per new EPA guidelines. Most major manufacturers have already begun to switch over to low GWP alternatives, such as R-454B and R-32. Due to their slight flammability, these refrigerants require new field procedures and service equipment due to their "A2L" safety classification.
This class will compare old versus new refrigerant systems from an operation, testing, and field procedure point of view. New refrigerant types will be provided with installation and diagnostic information. We will also highlight the required "retooling" needed to service these systems. The objective of this training is to increase each attendee's confidence, diagnostic capabilities, and field safety awareness. This session is great for Maintenance Team Members.
Key Topics Covered:
Refrigerant Safety
Introduction to Low GWP Refrigerants
Refrigerant Properties and Characteristics
The Refrigeration Cycle
Working with Refrigerant Blends
A2L Installation and Service Guidelines
Flammable Refrigerant Storage and Transport
Operating Measurements and System Triage using new refrigerants.
